Desires of the Heart: Intimacy

Why would we want intimacy with the Lord?

  • Feeling loved

  • Feeling supported

  • Belonging

  • Feeling of being accepted

  • Thinking of David’s Prayers and praises from the Psalms

    • 18:1-3

    • 27:4-5

    • 26:8

Why is this so different from modern christianity?

We see there are counterfeits to biblical abiding christianity.

  • Legalism

  • Secular/Flesh-driven Christianity

  • Self-defeated Christian (the toxic shame version of works based)

We were once enslaved to everything outside of God. Romans 6 shows us this life. Paul uses the word slavec to represent that complete surrender of will because we know God has our best interest in mind, increase in Holiness and Righteous living.

Living in defeatest hole in the heart, the only answer to this is intimacy with Jesus. Good works, service, church, biblical scholar not the answer to this. Instead we can only fill that through intimacy in Christ.

What does this do for the level of devotion and faith of the Christian?

  • God becomes real in my everyday life

  • No longer just wanting the ticket to heaven, but awaiting daily bread

  • Makes the Christian excited to seek God, to learn about Him, to find him at work in the small things
